Analysis of the Position of Jihad in the Jurisprudence of Resistance

The jurisprudence of resistance (fiqh al-muqāwamah) encompasses the rulings and legal principles that Islam has presented in individual, collective, political, security, cultural, artistic, and other domains for the regulation of the worldly and otherworldly life of Muslims. Defensive jihad constitutes one of the dimensions of the jurisprudence of resistance, which obligates Muslims worldwide to confront aggression by disbelievers against the lands of Islam. This struggle is undertaken with the purpose of preserving the foundation of religion (the integrity of Islam) and defending its territories. The outcome of this research, which has been organized through a descriptive-analytical intellectual inquiry method and based on library data, is an analysis of the position of defensive jihad within the jurisprudence of resistance from the perspective of Islamic jurists, with reference to scriptural sources. However, the innovation of this work indicates the necessity of defensive jihad in the contemporary era with the aim of preserving the integrity of Islam in its broad sense in any region of the world.
